But what should you look out for after the long winter break? How do you get your darling ready for the first outing?<\/p>\n<p>Once again, we spoke to our expert Max Lampelmaier, owner of car dealership <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lampelmaier.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ford Lampelmaier<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/mattsee\/\">Mattsee<\/a> and former Austria national rally champion. Together with his team, he maintains the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/automobile\/\">classic cars<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/technik\/\">fahr(T)raum Ferdinand Porsche Worlds of Experience<\/a> in Mattsee and helps us out with tips and tricks.<\/p>\n<p>As recommended in the autumn, before putting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/how-you-can-bring-your-vintage-car-through-the-winter-break\/\">the car away for the winter<\/a>, it is advisable to run through a checklist.<\/p>\n<h4>Checkliste &amp; tips for the first classic car outing<\/h4>\n<p>According to Max Lampelmaier, the following actions should be on the checklist for the spring:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44406\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-44406\" class=\"wp-image-44406 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tipps-Oldtimer-Ausfahrt-im-Fruehling-Oeldruck-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Tipps Oldtimer Ausfahrt im Fr\u00fchling \u00d6ldruck\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tipps-Oldtimer-Ausfahrt-im-Fruehling-Oeldruck-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tipps-Oldtimer-Ausfahrt-im-Fruehling-Oeldruck-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Tipps-Oldtimer-Ausfahrt-im-Fruehling-Oeldruck.jpg 600w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/200;\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-44406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Important for the first ride: checking the water, oil and brake fluid.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Changing the oil<\/li>\n<li>Checking the battery (should have been charged and discharged a few times during the winter)<\/li>\n<li>Reinstating the original tyre pressure (if it was increased before the winter, if the car was not jacked up)<\/li>\n<li>Checking the tyres for cracks and tread depth<\/li>\n<li>Checking the rims \u2013 checking the spokes on pre-war cars (spokes must be tight)<\/li>\n<li>Following the lubrication plan, if not done in the autumn<\/li>\n<li>Checking the water, oil and brake fluid<\/li>\n<li>Refilling with fuel<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning and gapping spark plugs<\/li>\n<li>Checking the Austrian 57a toll road sticker<\/li>\n<li>Assessing the paint for any damage \u2013 buffing with polish as required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another item on Max Lampelmaier\u2019s list is oil pressure: \u201cI am a great believer in starting oil pressure, i.e. terminating the ignition cable at the ignition coil and starting until the oil pressure light goes out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once you have worked through all the items on the checklist, there is nothing stopping you from taking the first test drive of the spring. However, this should be done at a low speed. \u201cOn the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/ausfahrten\/\">outings<\/a> of the fahr(T)raum classic cars, we stop briefly after 1.5 \u2013 2 km and check the brake drum by hand. It should be only warm and not hot.
