He transformed what he considered the &#8220;obsolete&#8221; plant into a modern car factory and brought a brilliant young engineer on board \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/ferdinand-porsche\/\">Ferdinand Porsche<\/a>, winner of the P\u00f6tting Prize and already known for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/lohner-porsche-mixte-1901\/\">Lohner<\/a> automobile designs. The company management was entrusted to Eduard Fischer, Wilhelm Strau\u00df and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/ferdinand-porsche\/\">Ferdinand Porsche<\/a>. Six months later, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/austro-daimler-maja\/\">Maja<\/a> 24\/28 HP car developed by Porsche with a 5700 cc 4-cylinder motor and diamond gearbox was presented at the Vienna Motor Show. Archduke Leopold Salvator already demonstrated great interest at the exhibition. In 1908 he assumed ownership of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/austro-daimler-maja-2832-feiert-110-geburtstag\/\">Maja 28\/32<\/a>; additionally equipped for him with a body by Cerny coachworks.<\/p>\n<p>After a general sales crisis in the automotive industry, transmission problems on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/austro-daimler-maja\/\">Maja <\/a>and the departure of Jellinek, the Maja was reworked. With improved, conventional transmission (cardan or chain drive) its successor, Type 28\/30 HP or 28\/32 HP from 1912, became the main model in Austro-Daimler\u00b4s portfolio.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21107\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/austro-daimler-prinz-heinrich\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21107\" class=\"wp-image-21107 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Prinz-Heinrich-2-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Prinz-Heinrich-2-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Prinz-Heinrich-2-768x518.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Prinz-Heinrich-2.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Prinz-Heinrich-2-705x476.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Prinz-Heinrich-2-450x304.jpg 450w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/202;\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21107\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With the P.H. winning car in front of the Hotel Savoy, 1910<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1910, after transforming the company into the &#8220;<em>\u00d6sterreichische Daimler-Motoren-Aktiengesellschaft<\/em>&#8220;, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/ferdinand-porsche\/\">Ferdinand Porsche<\/a>, Eduard Fischer and Count Heinrich von Sch\u00f6nfeld achieved the sensational first three places in the legendary &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/prince-henry-crazy-car-enthusiast-unforgettable-ride-legendary-vehicle\/\">Prinz Heinrich Fahrt<\/a>&#8221; (1,840 km). They each drove a specially built racing car with an aerodynamic body, 4 cylinders, 86 HP, OHC, dual ignition and 5700 cc displacement. Ferdinand Porsche himself drove the winning car. The &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/austro-daimler-prinz-heinrich\/\">Prinz Heinrich<\/a>&#8221; type 22\/86 went into series production and came on the market in 1911 \u2013 declared by many as the <strong>first sports car<\/strong>. The brand name &#8220;Austro-Daimler&#8221; quickly gained recognition.<\/p>\n<p>In 1911, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/ferdinand-porsche\/\">Ferdinand Porsche<\/a> created the last new Austro-Daimler before WWI began \u2013 the Type 18\/24 &#8220;touring car for city and country&#8221;. This type became known as the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/des-kaisers-neuer-wagen\/\">Kaiserwagen<\/a>&#8220;, as it was made a gift to Emperor Franz Josef by the Austrian Automobile Association.<\/p>\n<p>Success in competition continued with the 1911 Austrian Alpine Rally. The &#8220;Iron Trio&#8221; (Porsche, Fischer and Sch\u00f6nfeld) won driving the 9\/27 HP Alpenwagen (Alpine Car) (2200 cc, 4 cylinders, SV).<\/p>\n<p>From 1913, production was altered due to the war. Ferdinand Porsche developed war machinery for the First World War, <em>inter alia<\/em> the &#8220;<em>Landwehr train<\/em>&#8220;, a petrol-electric hybrid tractor with numerous single axle trailers for military purposes.<\/p>\n<p>In 1917, Porsche became general manager in Wiener Neustadt and received an<strong> honorary doctorate<\/strong> from the Technical University. After the war, he built the 14\/35 with the prominent upright pointed radiator\u00b8 based on the early type 14\/32 of 1910\/11. The 3.6 l Type 14\/35 played a significant role in the sport scene for Austro-Daimler, in particular the &#8220;<em>Alpenwagen<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>In 1920, the renowned technician developed a 4-cylinder 4400 cc luxury car, the AD617, also known as a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/der-austro-daimler-ad-617-jagdwagen\/\">Jagdwagen<\/a>&#8220;, as it was used by the Swedish royal family for hunting trips.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21118\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/austro-daimler-sascha\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21118\" class=\"wp-image-21118 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Sascha-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Sascha-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Sascha-768x541.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Sascha.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Sascha-705x496.jpg 705w, https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Sascha-450x317.jpg 450w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/211;\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-21118\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Austro Daimler ADS-R &#8220;Sascha&#8221; at the Targa Florio, 1922<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1922, Porsche celebrated great success with the design of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/portfolio-item\/austro-daimler-sascha\/\">Sascha ADS-R race car<\/a> \u2013 named after the film producer Count Alexander &#8220;Sascha&#8221; Kolowrat. The small car with 1.1 litre 4-cylinder motor boasted 50 HP and weighed only 600 kg. It was later also built with 1.5 l, 2 l and 3 litre 6-cylinder motors. &#8220;Sascha&#8221; family cars won 43 victories in races, among others at the Targa Florio in Sicily, in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bat numerous hillclimbs and on the steep banked track in Brooklands (GB). Nevertheless, the car never went into production because the Austro-Daimler Board did not recognise the potential.<\/p>\n<p>In 1923, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fahrtraum.at\/en\/ferdinand-porsche\/\">Ferdinand Porsche<\/a> left Austro-Daimler due to differences with the Supervisory Board.
